Deja Vu-Jan 1 2010

Well we’ve been in South Uist for a few days now. It is a bit weird being back to a place you have already visited. It seems like a whole lifetime ago when in reality it was merely three years. Our week has been quiet except for my constant hacking and coughing. Why the hell did my body decide that the best time to get sick is while I’m on vacation? It must be some sort of weird side effect from actually liking my job I’d subconsciously rather be ill while on holiday than miss a day of work. Ridiculous! On Uist we have tried on few different suits, and I think I was able to convince half of the island that I am a Canadian spy. We went out fishing one day on the Steele’s gorgeous boat. After 3 hours on rough waters our five man crew caught 6 prawns! I think that is a worthy haul. Not even enough for one prawn cocktail for goodness sake.

How did I convince the Islanders that I was spy. Well, firstly explaining my job description to people who don’t totally understand the Canadian political landscape has proven itself difficult. So my new answer is a vague, “I kind of work for the government.” This in itself is a bit mysterious. But what clinched my place as a spy was my marksmanship. One sunny but horribly windy day a group of us went out clay pigeon shooting. I having never really shot a gun in my life was reluctant to take a turn. When finally convinced I hit 2/3 of my targets. Thus, I became a spy for CSIS in their eyes.

Uist was good and a nice break for us. Tomorrow we are off again on the road to Northern Ireland. Coalisland in Tyrone to be exact. So excited. I'll write a
